I was in Sardinia for a month last year (lucky me!) so I drank a lot of Vermentino, and I was surprised by how expensive it all was. So I'm even more surprised that you're able to get such good value bottles all the way in the States! (Then again, we were in Gallura, so only drinking the DOCG good stuff - I guess you pay a premium for that, even locally....)
I know, it's surprising how well priced it all is here! (Though who knows how long that will last with all of these tariffs coming into effect 🫠) We definitely pay a big premium on Gallura Vermentino here too, I'd say the baseline price is close to double and it's much more difficult to find. What do you think, worth it?
I think it probably is worth it. To be honest, I wasn't a huge Vermentino fan before I went to Sardinia, whereas I really developed a taste for it in Gallura. But it's very personal: there are wines I can drink the cheap version of (e.g. most Chardonnay) and wines I only like the premium version of (e.g. Vermentino). I think it has something to do with memories of being very drunk on cheap wine when I was 17 😂

Ah yes, a tale as old as time. 😂 Sounds like we'll have to do a follow up with some Gallura bottles and see how they compare!
